The American Chemical Society, Jamaica Student Chapter will be staging a one day Science Festival for Primary School students on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 in the Department of Chemistry, UWI Mona. The event will be held under the theme: Chemistry: An Element of Fun! where students will be engaged in fun, hands-on activities to introduce them to basic chemistry concepts.

The Objectives of the Festival is to:

• Promote positive attitudes towards science and science learning
• Motivate students to develop an identity in which they see themselves as learners and users of science
• See relevance of chemistry in their daily lives
• Inspire a greater interest in chemistry and science in general

Over 250 primary school students are invited from six schools in Kingston and St. Ann; some from the lower performing schools based on the 2018-2019 PEP results. They will be accompanied by their teachers and some parents. The students will participate in interactive sessions from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Faculty and graduate students from the Department of Chemistry will serve as facilitators for this event. All are welcome to visit during the day's activities.

This event has been endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information.
