To create opportunities for professional growth for students, the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies, Mona (The UWI Mona), hosted its 11th Annual Career Fair on November 17, 2023. This engaging event had 17 prominent companies participating: CG United Insurance, Statistical Institute of Jamaica, GraceKennedy Limited, New Fortress Energy, Seprod/Facey Commodity, Bank of Jamaica, Wisynco Group Limited, Sterling Asset Management, Symptai Consulting Limited, Deloitte, Supreme Ventures Limited, First Global Bank Limited, Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited, Jamaica National Commercial Bank, Guardian Life, Duggan Consulting, and Jamaica Public Service Co.

The Opening Ceremony commenced with a warm welcome from Mr. Horace Johnson, setting the tone for an enriching experience. Dr. Mahesha Narayana, Head of the Department, extended greetings, and Ms. Mohitha Chindepalli, an undergraduate student, introduced the Keynote Speakers: The Honourable Dr. Nigel Clarke, Minister of Finance at the Office of the Prime Minister, and Mr. Ravi Rambarran, Chief Executive Officer at Duggan Consulting. The heart of the event lay in providing students with a unique opportunity to engage in mock interviews, group discussions, and presentations facilitated by representatives from the participating companies. These insightful sessions, structured in four 15-minute segments, allowed students to glean valuable insights into various industries. Ms. Chenille Mundell expressed gratitude with a vote of thanks, highlighting the collaborative efforts that made the Career Fair a resounding success.

In tandem with the Career Fair, the department hosted a Soft Skills seminar on November 10, 2023, open to students of all levels. The seminar, designed to encourage proper etiquette and professionalism, featured guest speakers Mrs. Jaqueline Burrell-Clarke, Director of Communication and Community Relations, and Ms. Sasha Lewis, Project Manager, both from New Fortress Energy. Ms. Chenille Mundell skillfully moderated the session, while the Vote of Thanks was graciously presented by Ms. Jamila McGowan, another student of the department. The positive feedback received from both participating students and companies underscores the tremendous success of these initiatives. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to making the 11th Annual Career Fair and Soft Skills seminar memorable and impactful.
