DoGG and CMS host community workshop to share Mangrove findings

A team from The University of the West Indies as a component of a World Bank funded project, "Assessment and Economic Valuation of Coastal Protection Services Provided by Mangroves in Jamaica (PROFOR)” conducted site analyses on the coastal protection provided by mangroves in Jamaica in the communities of Portland Cottage, Clarendon; Bogue, St. James; and Salt Marsh, Trelawny. The team recognised the importance of returning to the various communities to disseminate the results. On February 11, 2020 staff of the Department of Geography and Geology (DoGG) and Centre for Marine Sciences (CMS) returned to the community of Portland Cottage to host a workshop to share the findings with local stakeholders. The group included youths, Citizens Association Groups, Church Groups, fisher folk, interested residents as well as staff of the Caribbean Costal Area Management Foundation, the Non-Government Organisation (NGO) delegated with management of the Portland Bight Protected Area within which Portland Cottage is located.
