Dr. Camilo Trench Joins Pinnacle Foundation Board as Mangrove Conservation Expert

The Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies, Mona, extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Camilo Trench on his recent appointment to the Board of the Pinnacle Foundation as a mangrove expert. This prestigious role recognizes Dr. Trench’s extensive knowledge and commitment to environmental conservation, particularly in mangrove restoration and sustainability.

Dr. Trench is a Marine Biologist and Ecologist with over 20 years of experience in coastal ecosystem management. He currently serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences and the Academic Coordinator at the Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory (DBML).

Before joining DBML, Dr. Trench worked as a high school science teacher and a national training facilitator in Environmental Awareness and the Flora and Fauna of Jamaica. He also has experience in aquaculture, having worked as a shrimp hatchery technician and manager. His career in marine research led him to the role of Scientific Officer at the Port Royal Marine Laboratory, before transitioning to Chief Scientific Officer at DBML, where he now provides academic coordination.

In his new capacity, Dr. Trench will work closely with the Forestry Department of Jamaica to plan and design mangrove restoration initiatives for eight sites across the island. These efforts are crucial in mitigating coastal erosion, improving biodiversity, and enhancing climate resilience in Jamaica’s coastal zones.

Dr. Trench’s appointment highlights the importance of scientific leadership in environmental stewardship. We are confident that his expertise will have a lasting impact on Jamaica’s natural heritage.
