Dr. Charah Tabetha Watson is a multidimensional scientist, innovator and entrepreneur. She is an established expert in the field of science and technology and has contributed immensely to the development of the national nutraceutical industry in Jamaica.
At present, Dr. Watson is the Acting Executive Director of the Scientific Research Council (SRC), Jamaica’s principal agency, responsible for the fostering and coordination of scientific research and the promotion and application of its results.
Dr. Watson’s areas of focus are in natural products research, development, and the utilization of science as a tool to bridge the gap between indigenous communities and rest of society. She is deep in the translation and application of science as a tool for the enhancement of people’s life. This has led her into entrepreneurship.
She is the founder of Kihara Cosmetics, a beauty and wellness company specializing in all natural products designed to “enhance your beauty naturally”. Through Kihara Cosmetics, Dr. Watson develops unique formulations from natural plant extracts and essentials oils for common hair skin and nail issues specific to the Jamaican and Caribbean demographic of people.
She is a member of the Third World Academy of Sciences, a Honorary Fellow of Exed Community College and an honorary lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of the West Indies. She serves as research supervisor for several post graduate students.
Dr. Watson believes in living a purposeful and balanced life. She is the President of the Rotary Club of Liguanae Plains, through which she performs service to the community.
Dr. Watson graduated from the Faculty with undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Chemistry.
