FST Landslide Forum emphasizes Utilizing Science and Enforcement!

The 13th FST “Science for Today” Forum examining “Landslides, Infrastructure & Housing Construction” was held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Presenters were Professor Simon Mitchell, Professor of Sedimentary Geology, Department of Geography & Geology; Mr. Canute Ricketts, Director, Research and Mapping Unit, Mines & Geology Division of the Ministry of Transport & Mining, Ms Diana McPherson, Senior Planner at the National Environment & Planning Agency and Dr Wayne Reid, Civil Engineer at Jentech Consultants Ltd. With the recent Gordon Town (Jamaica) landslide as backdrop, the discussions centered on using scientific knowledge and expertise to guide construction and enforcing guidelines and laws to ensure public safety.
