FST welcomes Visiting Professor

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus (The UWI Mona) extends a warm welcome to Professor Lisa-Dionne Morris, who has been appointed Visiting Professor.

Professor Morris currently holds a full-time position in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds (UoL), England. Additionally, she serves as the Chair of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Funding agency, a vital component of the Canada Research Coordinating Committee (CRCC), collaborating with Canada's leading research granting agencies, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Professor Morris has been actively engaged with the FST, The UWI Mona for the last 18 months, including playing a pivotal role in facilitating research fellowships for academic staff members. Notably, through her efforts, Dr. Ricardo Anderson, Lecturer in the Department of Computing, recently participated in a research exchange with the UoL. Professor Morris has also coordinated with FST’s Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, Dr. Curtis Busby-Earle, to stage symposia and workshops bringing together scholars from universities in the Caribbean, Latin America, North America, Europe, and Africa. Recent examples are the co-organizing/co-hosting of two international seminars titled "Let the Research Speak for Itself - Celebrating the Accomplishments of Female Professors in the US, UK, Africa, and the Caribbean" hosted on UWItv, and the Professor Speaks Lecture Series on "Rising to Leadership: Negotiating Leadership Challenges in STEM." These initiatives have not only fostered new academic collaborations but have also created opportunities for grant funding. She is also actively using her platform to support The UWI brand.

The Faculty welcomes Professor Morris’ appointment and looks forward to a continued mutually beneficial partnership.
