FST/FMS/FHE hosts Health and Wellness Expo and T&SS Appreciation Day

In a grand celebration of The University of the West Indies' 75th Anniversary, the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) collaborated with the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) and  the Faculty of Humanities and Education to host a university-wide Health and Wellness Expo. The event took place at the Assembly Hall on November 30, 2023, and was held in conjunction with the FST Annual Technical and Service Staff (T&SS) Day .

The Health and Wellness Expo served as a dual-purpose event, combining the joy of the university's milestone anniversary with a dedicated focus on the well-being of its staff and students.

One of the highlight of the day was the participation of thirty-one exhibitors and service providers who showcased an array of products and services aimed at promoting health and well-being. Attendees had the opportunity to undergo various medical checks, including Blood Pressure, Sugar, Cholesterol and Haemoglobin Tests, HIV/Syphilis and BMI Checks, Eye Screening, and Dental Cleaning. The provision of these essential health checks was not only informative but also instrumental in promoting a culture of proactive health management among the university's community.

A unique feature of the Health and Wellness Expo was the dedicated FST Technical and Service Staff Zone. This area offered special activities and treats exclusively for hardworking T&SS, recognizing their contributions to the Faculty's success. The staff were also specially recognised by their respective departments.

During the launch ceremony, a moment of pride and accomplishment unfolded as thirty-one service staff members who had participated in the UWI-HEART/NSTA Trust Turf Attendant (March 20 and 23, 2023) and Food and Beverage Restaurant Service (Captain) (September 28-29, 2023) Trainings were presented with their well-deserved internationally recognised National Council on Technical Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET) certificates as follow:

This recognition marked not only their commitment to professional development but also highlighted the Faculty’s dedication to nurturing and empowering its staff.

The Health and Wellness Expo exemplifies The UWI's holistic approach to education, emphasizing the importance of physical and mental well-being alongside academic excellence.
