Professor Donovan Campbell, former Head of the Department of Geography and Geology and an alumnus of the Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, begins his role as the new director of The UWI Western Jamaica Campus (WJC) on August 1, 2024. He plans to align the institution with the needs of Montego Bay and western Jamaica. Campbell aims to leverage his background in geology and sustainability to address local development challenges. He envisions the campus as a key player in sustainable development and collaboration with local stakeholders.
Campbell emphasizes the importance of the university contributing to Montego Bay's growth while balancing economic progress, community prosperity, and environmental integrity. He also plans to expand the campus's offerings with short-cycle courses tailored to the region’s needs, including programs in building, construction, and medical fields. He succeeds Dr. Patrick Prendergast, who will head the Caribbean School of Media and Communication (CARIMAC).
