Field of Study: Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems, Agroforestry and Analysis of Qualitative and Quantitative Data
Through his PhD research, Dr. Kurt Prospere was able to identify and systematically quantify ecosystem services derived from the largest wetland in Jamaica. He also highlighted the impact of past and present human activities, and also examined the vulnerabilities of persons who depend on this wetland to sustain their livelihoods. By taking a multi-faceted and interdisciplinary approach in his research, he is always seeking to increase his theoretical and practical knowledge of natural resources management.
Dr. Prospere’s areas of interest and competence include remote sensing, geographic information systems, agroforestry and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data using advanced statistical techniques, for example machine learning.
Prior to his doctorate research, he completed the Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR) MSc. program from Erasmus Mundus, and gained meaningful field experience in tropical countries (e.g. Costa Rica, Cuba, Malaysia and Kenya) in the agriculture, agroforestry, forest ecology, social sciences, GIS, livelihood responses to climate vulnerability and change among others. Throughout his studies and work-life, he has worked in multicultural, multidisciplinary and multilingual environments. He particularly enjoys working and experiencing the natural resources of other countries, and using this to broaden his understanding and appreciation for forests and the diversity it supports.
