Launch of FORECAST 2020 Drives Importance of STEM

The Launch of FORECAST 2020, the joint conference between the Science Faculties of The UWI Mona and UTech, Ja. took place February 6, 2020 at the Undercroft on the campus of The UWI Mona. The Chair of the launch, Dr. Andrew Lamm (also Co-chair of FORECAST 2020) moderated the event's proceedings which included remarks from Prof. Dale Webber, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal of The UWI Mona and Prof. Colin Gyles, Deputy President at UTech, Ja. The keynote address was given by Dr. Glen Christian, Chairman and CEO of Cari-Med/ Kirk Distributors/ FP Group and Convenor of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for Growth Task Force. He spoke to the importance of the conference in light of the Jamaican government's ambitions to expand STEM centres across secondary and tertiary schools islandwide. The event culminated with the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the heads of both hosting universities, represented by Dr. Donovan Stanberry (The UWI Mona) and Prof. Colin Gyles (UTech, Ja.); followed by the acknowledgment of partners including Huawei, GraceKennedy Foundation, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Climate Investment Funds (CIF), Jamaica National Group, Desnoes & Geddes Foundation, Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Sipacupa, TechTrep, Jamaica Energy Partners and Incrementic.
