In June UNESCO released the seventh edition of its global Science Report which monitors trends in science governance worldwide to identify which development path countries are following. Chapter 6, co-authored by Dr. Alison Gajadhar (FST-Mona alum, Chemistry) and Emeritus Professor Ishenkumba Kahwa (former Dean FST-Mona), focuses on CARICOM. In addition to providing regional and country level statistics, the chapter concludes that whereas the observed growth in scientific publications attests to a more vibrant research culture, the current emphasis on health research does not prepare Caribbean societies for the digital and green economies of tomorrow. It further notes that a near-total absence of data on research and development is penalizing science management at the national and regional levels.
