Remembering Our BOOST Fellow | Kyle Atkinson

The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, regrets to inform the community of the passing of our Building Out Our STEM Teachers (BOOST) Fellow, Mr. Kyle Atkinson, on January 16, 2026.

Mr. Atkinson graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Education in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography, with a minor in International Relations, earning First Class Honours. During his time at The UWI Mona, he distinguished himself as a dedicated and hardworking student who demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence.

Mr. Atkinson was awardeded the Building Out Our STEM Teachers (BOOST) scholarship, through which he was placed as a STEM educator at Holland High School in Trelawny. In this role, he contributed meaningfully to science and geography education, sharing his knowledge and passion for the discipline with students and supporting the programme’s mission to strengthen STEM teaching in Jamaican secondary schools.

Mr. Atkinson will be remembered by colleagues, lecturers, and fellow students as a promising young educator whose enthusiasm for learning and teaching reflected the values of the Faculty and the BOOST initiative. His loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

The Faculty of Science and Technology and the BOOST programme partners extend sincere condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and students of the late Mr. Kyle Atkinson during this time of grief. His contribution to education and his commitment to service will not be forgotten.
