Science For Today 2019/20 Launches with Focus on Forests

The first Science For Today Free Public Lecture for 2019/20 entitled "The Immense Value of Forests- No more beating around the bush!" took place on Thursday, October 24 to an audience comprised of over 50 members of the university community as well as persons from the forestry industry among others from varying spheres. The topic was explored from angles including the importance of the Blue and John Crow Mountains; the effect of forests on ecosystems and climate change; and the value of forests and forestry in mitigating climate change. Presentations were given by representatives of the Jamaica Conservation Development Trust (JCDT), the Department of Life Sciences- The UWI Mona, and by The Forestry Department respectively.
