UWI Faculty of Science and Technology Engages in Regional Dialogue on E-Mobility

Mr. Dudley Williams, a graduate student in the Department of Physics, and Professor Tannecia Stephenson, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona, participated in the Caribbean Electric Mobility Forum held in Antigua and Barbuda from April 7–10, 2025. Their involvement was made possible through funding support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

As part of its ongoing commitment to advancing sustainable technologies in the region, The UWI hosted a dedicated session on Technical Education in E-Mobility during the forum. The session featured insightful presentations from Professor Tannecia Stephenson, Dr. Louis-Ray Harris, and Miss Carissa Reid, a Research Assistant, who shared perspectives on training, curriculum development, and innovation in electric mobility education.

The forum also brought together key stakeholders and alumni from the Faculty of Science and Technology, including Cherri-Ann Farquharson, Technical Chief of Staff at the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE), and Sheldon Marshall of the Caribbean Development Bank.

The UWI’s participation in the Caribbean Electric Mobility Forum underscores the institution’s leadership in regional efforts to transition toward cleaner, more sustainable energy and transportation systems. Through education, research, and strategic partnerships, the Faculty of Science and Technology continues to drive innovation that supports the Caribbean’s sustainable development goals.
