UWI hosts seminar on “Energy Challenges, Nuclear Technology, Safety and Regulation in the Caribbean”

On Wednesday March 27, 2019, the UWI through FST and the International Centre for Environment and Nuclear Science (ICENS) in association with the Ministry of Transport and Mining Plans held a regional seminar on nuclear technology and energy issues in the Caribbean. The meeting facilitated interaction between nuclear and energy industry representatives from several countries including the UK, France, Japan and the USA, regional and national experts in various related fields and UWI FST staff and students. The seminar provided a platform for informing the public on global energy challenges, specifically in the Caribbean, as well as safety in the region’s maritime transport sector, while also showcasing the region’s work on promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The keynote address was delivered by Rear Admiral Peter Brady, Director General, Maritime Authority of Jamaica. The meeting was held at the UWI Regional Centre.
