The UWI has partnered with the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) on a call for Caribbean residents and concerned citizens from around the world to sign a petition lobbying for urgent climate action. The Stay Alive and Thrive Petition has an initial target of 2,970 signatures. This represents the number of days separating the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, (COP26) from 2030; the year beyond which climate scientists have warned will be too late to reverse the negative impacts of climate change.
