UWI Partners on JPS Marubeni Power iLab

 

The launch of the JPS Marubeni Power International Innovation Lab (iLab) took place on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the head of office of JPS where partners on the project including the University of the West Indies, Mona engaged in the official signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The programme was headlined by The Honourable Fayval Williams, Minister of Energy, who participated in the cutting of the ribbon along with Emanuel DaRosa, President & CEO at JPS; Mo Majeed, Chief Operating Officer at Marubeni Power International; and Gary Barrow, Chief Operating Officer at JPS.

Among the presentions, Professor Dale Webber, Prinicpal at The UWI Mona brought remarks which was followed by the signing of the MOU by all the three parties involved on the initiative. In addition to Professor Webber, Professor Michael Taylor, also represented the university as a signee; while the representative signees from JPS were Emanuel DaRosa and Gary Barrow.

The iLab aims to provide students and graduates of the Jamaican university community with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in the most exciting and dynamic energy industry.  It will provide interns and students with the opportunity to work on real business challenges and to develop new and innovative models and solutions. In addition to germinating fresh perspectives and approaches, the iLab will also create a connection to potential employees, providing new employment opportunities for graduates in the future.  The iLab was developed in consultation with the University of the West Indies (UWI).
