The University of the West Indies Mona Analytical Chemistry (UWIMAC) Laboratory has been newly accredited as a testing centre under the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard. The Lab is housed in the Department of Chemistry, UWI Mona Campus. The unit had previously been granted ISO/IEC 17025:2005 certification. The laboratory, which officially started its operation in 1987, provides drug testing for samples of veterinary origin using analytical instruments, including Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). The entity conducts analyses on biological/forensic samples, plant material/extracts, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and toxins. This facility offers precise and accurate results in a reasonable turnaround time of three to five working days, while maintaining complete confidentiality and professionalism.
