The Department of History and Archaeology seeks to provide a thorough understanding of Caribbean history, heritage and culture, as well as the broader currents of world history which have helped shape the region. Accordingly, the Department’s courses focus not only on the Caribbean but also on Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America, and on the methodologies of history, archaeology, and heritage. We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Asian History with a specialization in East Asian History.  
The successful candidate will be required to:
 Teach undergraduate courses on: the history of the Asian World Prior to 1600, the History of Modern Japan, and the History of Modern China
 Teach postgraduate courses on the theory and method of History
 Contribute to curriculum design and development of the Asian History programme
 Develop and sustain a strong independent research programme in Asian History or related areas
 Supervise and train postgraduate students
 Participate in departmental activities, meetings, and administrative duties
 Engage in outreach, collaboration and interdisciplinary initiatives where appropriate

Essential Qualifications And Experience:
 A PhD in Asian History (broadly construed)
 Possess an excellent command of English
 Demonstrated evidence of research and publication activity

Candidates who possess the following will be at a distinct advantage:
 Specialization in Modern East Asian History
 Ability to also teach a course in Middle Eastern History
 Research and teaching interest in Diasporic Studies (connections between South-East Asia/East-Asia and the Caribbean)
 Experience supervising MPhil/PhD students
 Evidence of curriculum development (face-to-face and remote delivery)
 Evidence of prior grant acquisition
 Certificate in University Teaching or its equivalent
 Familiarity with digital learning tools or blended learning approaches
 A strong research record evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals
 Evidence of contribution to the Public Service OR field of study
