UWI, MONA GRADUATION CEREMONIES
The University of the West Indies wishes to extend its congratulations to its 2006 graduates upon the completion of their degree programme. The 2006 graduation ceremonies for The University of the West Indies, Mona will be held at the National Indoor Sports Centre, National Stadium Complex at 4 Arthur Wint Drive on Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11 at 5: 30 pm; however graduates are required to assemble at the venue by 3 pm.

VICE CHANCELLOR’S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
The Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence 2005/6 will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 6 pm at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre. There are four awardees for this year, two of which are from the Mona Campus namely: Professor Helen Jacobs, Department of Chemistry, Mona for Research and Cordel Nelson, Senior Assistant Registrar (Examinations), Examinations Section, Mona for service to the University community. MONA SCHOOL OF BUSINESS BOOK SALE
The Mona School of Business will be having book sale on Friday, November 3 between 10 am and 3 pm at The Alister McIntyre Building, UWI. Various books are available particularly those related to the following subject areas: Marketing, Human Resources, Management Studies, Business Law and Finance.
ANNUAL WORLD OF WORK SEMINARS
The Office of Placement and Career Services hosts the Annual World of Work Seminars over the period October 12 to November 23, 2006 – (7 consecutive Thursdays) at 3 pm.
The series of seminars focus on assisting students (prospective employees) to develop skills and competencies needed to enhance their academics in order to be successful in the world of work.
CONDOLENCES
It was with profound sadness that The University of the West Indies learnt of the passing of one of its former colleagues, Barrington Lynch on October 16. The University extends its condolences to the family and close friends of Mr. Lynch.
FACULTY AWARDS CEREMONY
The annual Humanities and Education Faculty Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 23 in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1) at 2:00 p.m. The event is designed to recognize outstanding students in academics from the Faculty. The guest speaker will be Ian Randle from Ian Randle Publishers.
Members of the University community and the public are invited to attend.
FIFTH BIENNIAL LUCILLE MATHURIN MAIR PUBLIC LECTURE
The Centre for Gender and Development Studies, Mona Unit, hosts the Fifth Biennial Lucille Mathurin Mair Public Lecture, which commemorates The International Day Against Violence Against Women 2006. This event will be held on Wednesday, November 29 at 5:30pm at The Undercroft, The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.
The Hon. Madame Justice Desiree Bernard O.R., C.C.H, the first female judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice of the Caribbean Court of Justice, will deliver the Lecture which is entitled “Confronting Gender-Based Violence in the Caribbean.”
GRADUATE SEMINAR
The School of Education Studies will host a graduate seminar on Ethics in Research on Thursday, November 9 at 2 pm in the New Education Lecture Theatre (NELT). The presenter will be Dr. Barbara Matalon.

INTER-COLLEGIATE SPORTS
The 2006 -2007 Intercollegiate Sports Association season kicked off on Saturday October 21, 2006 at the University of Technology. The UWI athletes paraded their top class gear and snatched the 1st place trophy for the uniform parade. The day continued on a blast with the UWI Male Basketball Team whipping EXED 67 – 42 in their first game of the season. The Netballers were defeated by GC Foster College, but gained second position in the one day rally.
MARY SEACOLE HALL’S BREAST CANCER FORUM
In an effort to increase the awareness of Breast Cancer among students of the UWI, Mona the Mary Seacole Hall’s Public Relations Committee will host a Breast Cancer Forum on Monday, October 30 at 8 pm on Mary Seacole Hall’s Badminton Court. All are invited.
