MEDICAL SCIENCES 15TH ANNUAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE
The Faculty of Medical Sciences hosts its 15th Annual Research Conference between November 15 and 17 at the Main Medical Library Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona under the theme: “Drug Development from Natural Products: Past, Present and Future.” The Conference is aimed at showcasing the research of the Medical Faculty and to provide a forum to share and explore developments in health research with members of the medical community, decision-making bodies and the wider communities.
MSB SHORT COURSE IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The Mona School of Business offers a short certificate course in Project Management which will begin on Thursday, November 2 and run each Thursday until December 7 from 9 am to 4 pm daily. This course is designed for professionals who wish to expand or acquire skills to succeed in today’s competitive business environment.
This training course provides an introduction to the principles of Project Management in which no prior knowledge of Project Management is assumed. However, participants are expected to have a lap top for use during the course.

PSCCA SOCIETIES EXPO
The Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA) presents Societies Expo on the lawns of Mary Seacole Hall, Thursday October 26, between 10 am and 4 pm. This annual co-curricula exhibition is presented with the support of the Office of Student Services and the Guild of Students. It provides a unique opportunity for student organizations to display their involvement in a varied range of interests. Also participating are selected not-for-profit organizations, commercial entities and our (Kuumba) creative marketplace vendors.
THE JAMAICAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOSTS TALK
The Jamaican Historical Society is hosting a talk by Dr Swithin Wilmot, Head, Department of History and Archaeology, titled "George William Gordon: Early excursions into electoral politics in Free Jamaica, 1844-1849". This will take place on Tuesday, October 24, in the Main Library's Multifunction Room at 6:00 pm. All are invited.
UNIVERSITY SINGERS CONCERT 2006 REMONTED
Due to the great demand for performances, The University Singers will remount its 2006 Concert Season, for one weekend only from Thursday - Sunday, October 26 – 29 at The Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA), UWI, Mona. On Thursday through to Saturday shows will begin at 8 pm, while there will be two showings on Sunday at 4 pm and 8 pm. Tickets are available at the door. UWI RESEARCHER RECOGNISED IN INAUGURAL CARIBBEAN AWARDS
Professor Terrence Forrester, Director of the Tropical Medicine Research Institute (TMRI) at The University of the West Indies, Mona was among the honourees at the first Anthony N Sabga ‘Caribbean Awards for Excellence’ launched by the Ansa McAl Foundation with the aim of encouraging the pursuit of excellence by Caribbean people for the benefit of the region. The gala award ceremony took place recently at the Hilton Trinidad Hotel in Port-of-Spain.
UWI TO HOST 8TH ANNUAL WALTER RODNEY LECTURE
The Institute of Caribbean Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona, in association with the Marcus Garvey Movement, will host the 8th Annual Walter Rodney Memorial lecture on Thursday October 26, at 6:00 p.m. at the Undercroft of the Senate Building. The lecture is entitled “Bridging The Ethical Gap In Politics: Implications Of Walter Rodney’s Intellectual Heritage For Africana Leadership,” and will be delivered by Dr. Ayotunde Bewaji, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy.
Annual World of Work Seminars
The Office of Placement and Career Services presents a seven part Annual World of Work Seminar Series from October 12 to November 23 at 3:00 pm in Seminar Room 10 (SR10), Faculty of Social Sciences.
The series of seminars focus on assisting students (prospective employees) to develop skills and competencies needed to enhance their academics in order to be successful in the world of work.
Caribbean Quarterly Nominated for Inclusion in Premium Research Data Base
Caribbean Quarterly has been nominated by EBSCO Publishing for inclusion in their premium subscription-based research database Humanities International Complete, giving the journal an alternative means of exposure as well as earning royalties as a participating publisher. The journal was established in 1949 as one of the University’s flagship journals.
