The Brainstem Localization of Gastric Preganglionic Parasympathetic Neurons in the Agouti (Dasyprocta leporina)

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2012.155
Pages:
497–503
Synopsis:
Using the modern WGA-HRP neurohistochemical tracing technique, the brainstem localization of vagal preganglionic parasympathetic neurons was investigated in the Agouti. Following injections of the tracer into the muscular wall of various sections of the stomach, retrogradely labelled neurons were seen in the dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus nerve as well as in the nucleus ambiguus. The labelled neurons were bilaterally distributed.

The Organization of the Brainstem Nuclei Associated with the Vagus Nerve in the Agouti (Dasyprocta Leporina): A Neurohistological Study

Issue:
Pages:
46–52
Synopsis:
This study has investigated the organization of vagal brainstem nuclei in the agouti and has shown organisation pattern similar to those of other commonly used laboratory animals. The larger size of this species makes it a suitable alternative experimental animal.

Brainstem Origin of Duodenal Vagal Preganglionic Parasympathetic Neurons A WGA-HRP Study in the Ferret (Mustela Putorius Furo), a Human Model

The projections of vagal brainstem neurons to the duodenal segment of the gastrointestinal tract were studied in the ferret using the WGA-HRP neurohistochemical technique. Fourteen adult ferrets with weights ranging from 800 gm to 1500 gm were used for the study. The muscular wall of the duodenum of six ferrets was injected with 0.1ml of 5% WGA-HRP in 0.5M sodium chloride. The eight remaining ferrets were used as controls. Two of these had injections of 0.1 ml normal saline into the muscular wall of the duodenum.
