Prevalence and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Pattern of Pathogens Isolated from Patients with Juvenile Periodontitis in Jamaica: A Prospective Multi-centre Study of 15 Cases over a 15-year Period

Issue:
Pages:
235–9
Synopsis:
The most frequent pathogens encountered in juvenile periodontitis were different from what has been previously documented by other authors. Antimicrobial treatment of juvenile periodontitis should be based on the result obtained from microbiological investigations.

Keratosis Palmo-plantaris Associated with Early-onset Periodontitis: A Case Report

Issue:
Pages:
96–9

ABSTRACT

Keratosis palmoplantaris associated with periodontopathy or Papillon Lefevre syndrome is a very rare genetic disorder with autosomal recessive mode of inheritance and is characterized by hyperkeratosis of the palms and soles and early onset of a severe destructive periodontitis. Estimation of the Levels of C-reactive Protein, Interleukin-6, Total Leukocyte Count, and Differential Count in Peripheral Blood Smear of Patients with Chronic Periodontitis in a South Indian Population

Issue:
DOI:
Doi:10.7727/wimj.2011.096
Pages:
826–31
Synopsis:
Periodontitis results in higher systemic levels of C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, total leukocyte count and neutrophils. These elevated inflammatory factors may increase inflammatory activity in atherosclerotic lesions, potentially increasing the risk for cardiovascular events.

ABSTRACT

Aims: The aim of the present study is to investigate systemic levels of inflammatory markers of cardiovascular diseases like C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), total leukocyte count and differential count in patients with chronic periodontitis, in comparison to healthy individuals without periodontal disease.
