Recurrent Diabetic Muscle Infarction Presenting With Painful Thigh Swellings Simulating Recurrent Deep Venous Thrombosis

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.120

ABSTRACT

Atraumatic painful swollen lower extremity has limited differential diagnosis and in patients with risk factors for venous thromboembolism offers little challenge. Poor awareness of rare entities results in misdiagnosis and mismanagement. Diabetic muscle infarction is a rare complication of longstanding uncontrolled diabetes mellitus causing ischemic skeletal myonecrosis and similar presentation.

Anti-inflammatory Activities of Cassia alata Leaf Extract in Complete Freund’s Adjuvant Arthritis in Rats

Issue:
Pages:
615–21
Synopsis:
The anti-inflammatory effects of Cassia alata leaf extract were investigated on complete Freund’s adjuvant induced arthritic rats. The extract from the leaves was able to significantly reduce the swelling observed in the knee joint. It was also able to effectively protect the articular cartilage from degradation as well as limit the number of differential leukocytes entering the synovial cavity during inflammation. Cassia alata possesses potent anti-inflammatory effects and should undergo further investigations of these properties.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of a hexane extract of Cassia alata leaves in complete Freund’s adjuvant (CFA) arthritis in rats.
