Jamaican Stanford graduate hails role of UWI Math Department & Math Olympiad

In June 2021, Jabari Hastings graduated from Stanford with both an undergraduate degree in mathematics, with honours, and a master's degree in computer science. He was recently featured in the Jamaica Gleaner where he reflected on his achievement and those who helped or inspired him. The article notes:

“Hastings also praises the staff in the Department of Mathematics at The University of the West Indies, who provided a platform for him to develop his propensity for mathematics through the Math Olympiad. “I really appreciate the support from the maths department for helping to see that interest and fuelling it,” he said. “I would want to have a similar impact on students in the Caribbean, whether through a summer programme or coming back to work at the UWI or UTech. They had a tremendous impact on me and I feel like it would be my time to return the favour, and I would be happy to do so,” he said.”
