The Department of History and Archaeology is deeply saddened to share the passing of Professor Emeritus Pedro Welch, retired Professor of Medical and Social History, Cave Hill Campus, UWI. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
Professor Pedro Welch was a former Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Deputy Principal at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies. He held several positions at the university, including Assistant Registrar (Examinations), Student Services Coordinator at the University of the West Indies Distance Education Centre (UWIDEC), and Sub-Warden at Sherlock Hall (Cave Hill).
Professor Welch was recognized as an expert on the urban context of the slave plantation system in the British West Indies and published numerous books and articles addressing various topics in Caribbean history.
