39th Annual Graduate Recruitment Programme

The Office of Placement and Career Services, UWI, Mona continues its 39th Annual Graduate Recruitment Programme until Tuesday, April 27, 2010.

The programme   aims to provide the opportunity for final year students to be interviewed by public and private sector organizations and schools for vacant positions available immediately or within the next six months. Participating organizations include,  Price Waterhouse Coopers , Ernst and Young , the Bank of  Jamaica, Montego Bay  Community College,  Sandals  Resorts, Peat Marwick , St  Mary High  School , Fiscal  Services   Limited and   The  Production Labs.  

World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2010

The Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health (OESH) Programme at UWI, Mona will collaborate with the Jamaica Occupational Health Professional Association (JOHPA) to host an exhibition, workshop and mini-symposium to mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work on Wednesday, April 28. The day’s celebration is themed, “Emerging risks and new patterns of prevention in a changing world of work”.

29th Annual West Indian Literature Conference

The Department of Literatures in English, UWI, Mona hosts the 29th Annual Conference on West Indian Literature, at Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, the UWI, Mona on April 29 to May 1, 2010.

UWI Postgraduate Scholarship 2010/11

Graduate scholarships are now available for the 2010/2011 academic year to postgraduate students with at least an upper second class honours degree who wish to pursue higher degrees by research (M.Phil and Ph.D candidates). The scholarship is available to graduates of UWI and West Indian graduates of other universities to pursue studies at any UWI campus and is normally given for a period of two (2) years.

To apply applicants should visit the website at www.uwimona.edu.jm/postgrad. The closing date for application is Friday, April 30, 2010.

3rd Americas Regional Conference

“Integrating Evidence-based Practice into Quality Health Care” is the theme of the third Americas Regional Conference being hosted by the UWI School of Nursing, the Jamaica Midwives Association and the International Confederation of Midwives. The Conference takes place on May 26-28, 2010. The event commences with an Opening and Welcome Reception on May 26, 2010 at 5:30 pm at the UWISON Courtyard.

“The Lion of Judah”-Film Screening

“The Lion of Judah” is the third film being showed in the Jamaican Rastafari Film Series organized by the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, UWI, Mona. The film takes place on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 8 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona. The film represents the official account of Haile Selassie's visit to Jamaica 1966.

Psychology Week

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work presents Psychology Week under the theme, “Psychology in Action: Research and Practice” from April 19-23, 2010. The week of activities include a Psychology Poster Presentation throughout the week at the Psychology Unit, Sir Alister McIntyre Building, UWI, Mona from 10am- 4pm daily. There will also be a discussion on Careers in Psychology on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 12 noon at the Multifunctional Room, Main Library, UWI, Mona.   Additionally, on Tuesday, April 20 a session entitled, Psychology in Film takes place at 12 noon at the Multifunctional Room, Main Library, UWI, Mona.

Derek Gordon Research Seminar 2010

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work hosts its annual Derek Gordon Research Seminar on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 2 pm at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre. This graduate seminar will see postgraduate students sharing their research in panel presentations. Topics being explored include: The Effects of Squatting and Associated Mechanisms, Factors Affecting Fertility, Migration, Childhood Depression, Live Sex Performance in Jamaica and a Tribute to Lita Allen.

The seminar is in honour of the Dr. Derek Gordon, outstanding sociologist and social activist. It is designed to showcase the work of graduate students and facilitate knowledge sharing on psycho-social issues.

“Business Development in the Caribbean: Confronting the Challenges”

The pioneering class of Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) candidates of the Mona School of Business (MSB) will host a Business Leaders’ Conference under the theme “Business Development in the Caribbean: Confronting the Challenges.”  The Conference takes place April 23-24, 2010 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona.
