Examinations without attending lectures or Exams only is simply a request to sit only the final examination for a course and not the mid-semester exam or coursework. As such, an approved student would not be required to attend lectures.
Students may be permitted to sit Examinations Only under the following circumstances:
Students (full-time or part-time) who miss a final examination due to extenuating circumstances (e.g., medical reasons, bereavement, or national service). In such cases, students will be eligible to carry forward their coursework grade, which will be combined with the examination mark obtained at the next sitting to determine the final course grade.
Part-time students who miss a final examination due to work obligations. In these circumstances, students will also be eligible to carry forward their coursework grade, which will be combined with the examination mark obtained at the next sitting to determine the final course grade.
Students who have marginally failed the final one or two courses required for completion of their degree. The Board of Examiners may recommend to the relevant Department that such students be permitted to sit Examinations Only, provided that they have obtained a mark equivalent to at least 45% in each course. In these cases, students are not eligible to carry forward their coursework grades, as those grades would have already been used in the determination of the original final grade. Accordingly, the resit examination will be assessed out of 100%, and the examination mark will constitute the student's final grade for the course.
