UWI Research Day 2025
Held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, UWI Research Day showcased groundbreaking research from across the Faculty of Social Sciences. The event, hosted at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre (SSLT), featured:
Dynamic Displays: Poster and book exhibits highlighting innovative projects.
Department Booths: Interactive opportunities to learn about departmental initiatives.
Lightning Talks: Engaging presentations by graduate researchers on cutting-edge topics.
This annual event continues to be a platform for dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration, spotlighting the impactful work being conducted within the faculty.
Celebrating Excellence in Research
The FSS is also pleased to recognize this year’s recipients of the Principal’s Research Awards for their outstanding contributions to scholarship:
Best Research Publication (Article): Prof. David Tennant and Dr. Sandria Tennant for their work on climate finance access in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Most Outstanding Researcher: Prof. Christopher Charles for his prolific output over the past academic year.
Greatest Policy Impact: The team led by Prof. Aldrie Henry-Lee for their disability assessment study across four Caribbean countries.
These awards reflect the faculty’s dedication to producing research that drives meaningful change in policy, business, and society.
Upcoming FSS Seminar – March 26, 2025
Building on the momentum of Research Day, the Faculty of Social Sciences invites students, faculty, and stakeholders to the FSS Seminar, scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM in Room G204. This seminar will feature a compelling discussion on “Gang Involvement in Homicides: A Regional Perspective”. The session promises to provide critical insights into this pressing issue, with expert speakers sharing their findings and recommendations for policy and community interventions.
