Talent Management

Concept and Description

The NHS Leadership Academy defines talent management as “… the systematic attraction, identification, development, engagement, retention and deployment of those individuals who are of particular value to an organisation, either in view of their ‗high potential‘ for the future or because they are fulfilling business/operation-critical roles.‖ The focus on talent has in a sense replaced the idea of human resource, and incorporates areas such as succession planning, career development and talent development overall.

In Semester 1 of 2020-2021, a set of talent management strategies will be developed, for piloting in Semester 2 and formalization in 2021-2022. These strategies will focus on areas such as the orientation and on-boarding process, how individuals are assigned to projects in the FSS, how individuals are involved in the generation and testing of new ideas and solutions, how individuals are selected and nurtured for emerging areas and strategic directions, how student development is facilitated the requirements of their programmes, and how retirees are involved in the development of the FSS.

Expected Outcomes

Talent management strategies: after these strategies are developed, tested and formalized, the FSS should see better socialization of incoming members with fewer complaints regarding their onboarding, an increased sense of employee engagement, fulfilment and satisfaction, with a sense that the organization cares to support their development and growth. Benefits should redound to performance and productivity levels.
