The UWI Mona Pelicans male track and field team finished third overall in the recently concluded 2012 VMBS Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships held at the UWI/Usain Bolt Track. The event was deemed a successful one on many levels including the quality of athletes who participated in the championship. One such example is the UWI 4*400m relay team who won the event in a record breakng time of 3:08.80sec. The UWI Pelicans now hold both records for the 4*100 and 4*400 sprint relays. UWI Mona at the end of the two day meet captured seventeen (17) medals overall; Eight (8) gold, four (4) silver and five (5) bronze. This has been the University's best performance in the Championship thus far. The female Pelicans finished fourth at the end of the championship.
