The Inaugural UWI/Kier beach Football Tournament

The University of the West Indies, Mona Sports Department in association with Kier Construction staged the inaugural Beach Invitational Football Tournament and family fun day on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the newly renovated UWI Sand Court.

The competition saw six teams competing in a 'winner takes all' rally for the cash prize of $60,000. Quality Builders dribbled to victory after defeating Bryce Hill Lane in the finals. Before claiming top spots however the two had to battle UWI Staff, Kier Yellow and Kier Blue and JN Strikers in what was described as exciting encounters.

Consolation Prizes were awarded for outstanding performance in the tournament; Ajae Aitken of UWI Staff copped the award for Leading Goal Scorer, Courtney Wilson of JN Strikers- Best Goal Keeper and Luke Soars from Quality Builders contribution as Most Valuable Player aided in their victory which resulted in Coach Cunningham walking away with the Winning Coach Award.

All in all the event was a success, adults and children alike enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere filled with music, refreshments and all day rides for the kids. We are anticipating that next year's staging will be bigger and better.
