Bilateral Psoas Abscess in a Case of Granuloma Inguinale

ABSTRACT

The authors present a case of disseminated granuloma inguinale with bilateral psoas abscesses. Infection with calymmatobacterium granulomatis is usually localized to the genital organs but rarely may be disseminated. A search of the literature revealed that only two cases of psoas abscesses due to calymmatobacterium granulomatis were previously reported.

Synopsis: 
The burden of malignancy in adolescents and young adults in Jamaica is greater in females. In both genders, increasing age is accompanied by increased incidence rates and a progressive shift from non-epithelial to epithelial malignancies. This shift occurs earlier in females.

Objective: To determine the distribution of malignancies in adolescents and young adults (AYA; 15 to 29
years) in Jamaica.

Synopsis: 
A high proportion of soft tissue sarcomas in Jamaica are unclassified and the anatomical distribution of common classified sarcomas shows some differences with the literature. Limited access to immunohistochemistry/ molecular diagnostics and increasing core biopsy diagnosis may contribute to these phenomena.
