As medical schools modernize in order to respond to increasing demands for better-trained doctors, there is a need to pay particular attention to the curriculum, with greater emphasis on training in the community, in team-working and in communication.

INTRODUCTION

New challenges in healthcare are being posed worldwide and doctors are being asked to respond. Fundamental issues such as equal access, full coverage, Integrated care, consumer satisfaction, ethics, population perspective in healthcare delivery, promotion of healthy lifestyles, protection of the environment, technology assessment and cost containment have led to the search for a new paradigm which can integrate all these factors (4).

Spline Regression in Clinical Research

An introduction to the simple technique of spline regression is provided using data from a study of patients hospitalized for invasive group A streptococcal disease. A spline model is used to examine the dose-response association between serum albumin and mortality.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The objective of this article is to illustrate the statistical technique of spline regression, an under-utilized tool in clinical research. Spline regression was used to assess the dose-response association between serum albumin and hospital mortality.
