This study describes the health status and healthseeking behaviour of men fifty-five years and older in Jamaica based on a quantitative survey of 2000 men. There are implications for health policy and programming given rapid population ageing in the Caribbean.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The Caribbean including Jamaica is undergoing rapid population ageing with implications for health service planning and delivery. Such planning should take into account gender differentials. This study describes and analyses the health status and health-seeking behaviour of men 55 years and over in Jamaica.

Physical Activity Levels of Senior Secondary School Students in Ibadan, Western Nigeria

Inactivity and low levels of physical activity are predisposing factors to many chronic diseases which are showing an increase in prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa generally. This study showed that adolescents are not involved in adequate physical activities that could safeguard their present and future well-being.

Health Status and Health Maintenance Practices among Doctors and Nurses at Two Hospitals in Jamaica

More than 50% of 212 doctors and nurses studied reported signs and symptoms of stress but were generally physically healthy. Barriers to seeking healthcare included confidentially issues and the need to appear healthy to colleagues and patients.
