I am an Artist, Activist, Academic, Alchemist. I was an Adjunct Lecturer at the Institute for Gender and Development Studies, Mona Unit, since 2014 and now an Assistant Lecturer as of August 1, 2024. I also lecture in the Faculties of Science and Technology, and Medical Sciences.
My work largely seeks to answer the question ‘What can the Caribbean teach the world?’ About what? About everything! Because we have plenty tings weh we do first, different and sometimes better. My activism, curriculum development, content creation, event curation, and coaching focus on social justice more broadly. As an academic and researcher I have a specific interest in decolonized black and queer freedoms. I am passionate about creating a classroom that is accessible, inclusive, and a space for experiential learning, social transformation and the discovery of new sites and sources of knowledge.
I hold an MA Gender Studies from Queen’s University in Ontario, and a BA Media and Communications (Hons.) from CARIMAC at the UWI.
My recent publications include:
• “Leaving No One Behind: Assessing The Needs Of Vulnerable Groups In Jamaica.” Available through UNESCO.
• “Brave ‘Battymen’ and the (Im)Possiblities of a Straight Dancehall.” Part of “Beyond Homophobia: Centring LGBTQ Experiences in the Anglophone Caribbean”.
• “Woke to Weary”; Co-written with Gloria Diaz, Gabrielle Cabrera and Laura Yakas and made available through Duke University Press.
