1. Equalities Enabling Fund - UWI, Mona Sexual Harassment (Prevention & Protection) Peer Advisors Training Manual (funded by the British High Commission in Jamaica)

Project overview: This Training manual is a result of a 12-week project funded by the British High Commission (BHC) in Jamaica, Equalities Enabling Fund in Jamaica, which seeks to increase awareness among UWI, Mona students of Sexual Harassment Prevention and Protection strategies.

The researchers at the IGDS have designed a training manual for tertiary level students who want to become Sexual Harassment Prevention Peer Advisors. The content is designed in a series of six modules of participatory exercises and activities. It is meant to introduce students to the legal and practical framework for preventing sexual harassment and protecting victim/survivors of incidents of sexual harassment.

2. Supporting Increased Learning Opportunities for Underperforming Boys (16 - 24 Years) in Jamaica (funded by the Commonwealth of Learning Canada)

(Research Summary)

Desk Review: A Situational Analysis of the educational aspirations of selected Jamaican male youth (16-24 years) was conducted. The result of this is a database comprising 25 available educational and vocational skills training opportunities offered to Jamaican youth by various institutions.

Face – to – face surveys ​ - were conducted with 300 male youth in the urban area of the Kingston and Metropolitan area (KMA) and rural St. Elizabeth. Surveys were also carried out with one hundred and fifty (150) mothers of in school and out-of-school youth (OSY’s) to determine the influence of mothers on the educational aspirations and choices made by male youth.

Two separate Focus Group sessions – 1 with in and out of school male youth (16-24 years old) and another with unrelated mothers of out of school youth).
