One Stop Graduation Centre, UWI 2003 Graduates
In an effort to streamline the pre graduation process, The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus will operate a ONE STOP Graduation Centre from October 21 to November 5 at the Assembly Hall, Mona from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Monday to Saturday) for: presentation of vouchers, graduation gowns, photographs, memorabilia, alumni information, collection of invitations and parking stickers. (Please note, the One Stop Graduation Centre will close on November 5).
UWI Zendo Karate Club
The UWI Zendo Club placed 5th at the recently concluded 9th Zendo Inter-School Karate Championship held at the UWI Bowl on the Mona Campus on Saturday, October 25.
Daniel Dowdie placed 1st in Sparing and 2nd place in Kata (Forms) and also Chamaine Mendez earned two 2nd places in Sparing and Kata (Forms) respectively. The Club will be embarking on a fundraising drive to assist with the purchase of training gear shortly.
Annual World of Work Seminar
The Annual World of Work Seminar series organized by the Office of Placement and Career Services, Mona will continue on Thursday, October 30 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at SR10, Faculty of Social Sciences. This week’s seminar is “Preparing for and attending the Job Interview – How to Dress appropriately and Respond to commonly asked Questions”, and the presenter is Claudette White, Human Resources Manager, Grace Kennedy and Company Limited.
Bursary Open Day
The Mona Campus bursar and staff invite the campus community to “The Bursary Open Day” on Thursday, October 30. The opening ceremony will commence at 11:00 a.m. at the Undercroft of the Senate Building. Come and see “The Financial Hub” on display - Payroll, Pension and Staff Benefits, Purchases, Treasury Management, Customer Service, Commercial Operations, Billings and Receivables, Payables and Special Projects, Financial Reporting/Fixed Assets and Bank Reconciliation.
Caribbean Coastal Data Centre
As part of an effort to improve coral reef monitoring and reporting on the status of coral reefs in the countries of the Northern Caribbean node of the global coral monitoring network, a team of scientists led by the Caribbean Coastal Data Centre, Centre for Marine Sciences, UWI Mona visited Haiti during the period September 15-20. The team conducted training in the reef check method of coral reef monitoring and collected data from some reef sites at Les Arcadins and the surrounding coastline.
Caribbean Tertiary Level Personnel Association
The Caribbean Tertiary Level Personnel Association (CTLPA) held its first General Meeting for the academic year on October 7, at the Social Welfare Training Centre.
Participants included student services personnel from the University of The West Indies, Mona, the University of Technology, Mico Teachers’ College, Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, Montego Bay Community College and Portmore Community College.
Medical Sciences 12th Annual Research Conference
Ageing Well: a Life Course Perspective is the theme of the 12th Annual Research Conference and Workshop which will be staged by the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the UWI, Mona Campus from November 12-14. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 12 at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, beginning at 5:30 p.m. One highlight of the ceremony will be the delivery of the Kenneth Standard Distinguished Lecture by Dr. Alexandre Kalache, Chief, Ageing and Health Promotion at the World Health Organisation.

(Excluding Sundays) from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Monday to Saturday) for: presentation of vouchers, graduation gowns, photographs, memorabilia, alumni information, collection of invitations and parking stickers.
The Jamaican Diaspora
The Mona School of Business, UWI in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade will host a symposium on “The Jamaican Diaspora-Reciprocal Relations – The Way Forward” on October 28 beginning at 9:00 a.m. with an official opening ceremony. Guest speaker at the Opening Ceremony will be Sir Bill Morris. There will be two Panel Discussions: the first entitled “Promoting Jamaica-Uses of the Lobby” will begin at 11:10 a.m. and the second which begins at 3:00 p.m. is Business Opportunities – Jamaica and the Diaspora”. Registration is at 8:00 a.m.
UWI Medical Alumni Association 7TH Reunion Conference
The UWI Medical Alumni Association will hold its 7th Reunion Conference from November 4 – 8 at the Radission Cable Beach Resort, Nassau. The Opening Ceremony on November 4 at 6:00 p.m. will be under the Distinguished Patronage of the Governor General of the Bahamas, Her Excellency Dame Ivy Dumont. Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Sir George Alleyne will bring greetings and the guest speaker will be the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie.
