Practices in Basic Electronics

Semester 2

This laboratory course will be presented in a teaching lab format and is meant to cover the laboratory components of the Introductory Electronics Course (ELET1400). Students will be guided in performing various explorations of the practical aspects of Basic Electronics. Three minor design projects will be an integral part of the course test requirements. Students will be required to write up their experimental results and submit at the end of each class session.

Learning Objectives:

After completing this course, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the application of multimeters and oscilloscopes to measure current, voltages and resistances in DC and AC circuits.
  • Measure the electrical signals from a microphone and various audio devices (MP3 players, I-Pod, Cell Phones, Laptops) with an oscilloscope
  • Design and test basic analog and digital circuits
  • Describe AM and FM systems based on observation of their signal waveforms and system components.
  • Designs and test DC circuits of diodes and transistors.
  • Demonstrate lab safety procedures and identify safety hazards
