The Department would like to congratulate our past student Sameer Simms on his promotion to the role of Director – Generation Operations Planning and Performance (GOPP) effective, December 1, 2021.

In his new role, Sameer will provide strategic leadership to the organisation by driving growth through digital transformation in the development of long-term goals for the power generation units. His portfolio responsibility will also include fostering agility, efficiency and continuous improvement within the generating plants to achieve world-class standards.

At UWI, Sameer completed his Bachelor's degree in Physics and Mathematics (2013), while being an active member of multiple clubs, teams and societies, including the Physics Honour Society. Upon completion, he began his MPhil journey with us where he researched and developed a low-cost efficient hybrid photovoltaic thermal collector, and graduated in 2016. During this time he assisted with labs and lectures, was a part of the Alternative Energy Club and also published a paper (Thermal performance of a hybrid photovoltaic-thermal collector with a modified absorber) with his supervisor Dr. Jean-Francois Dorville.

Sameer is a vibrant and ambitious member of our alumni and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
