Wireless Communication Systems

Semester 1

This course offers a definitive professional's overview of wireless communications technology and system design. Virtually every important new wireless standard and technological development, including W-CDMA, cdma2000, UMTS, and UMC 136/EDGE; IEEE 802.11 and HIPERLAN WLANs; Bluetooth, LMDS, and more, have been reviewed. The technologies and applications that drive the development of 2G, 2.5G, and 3G systems are explored. An overview of the 4G technologies is presented.

Syllabus:
  • Introduction to wireless communication systems
  • Modern Wireless communication systems: 2G, 2.5G and 3G technologies
  • Introduction to 4G technologies
  • The cellular concept: system design fundamentals
  • Mobile radio propagation: large scale path loss; small scale fading and multi-path
  • Modulation techniques for mobile radio
  • Equalization, Diversity and Channel coding;
  • Speech Coding
  • Multiple access techniques for wireless communications
