Sonographic Biometry of Fetal Interorbital Distance as a Predictor of Gestational Age in Enugu, Southeast Nigeria

Issue:
DOI:
10:7727/wimj.2014.102
Pages:
128–33
Synopsis:
The fronto-transverse sonographic technique was established as a feasible technique for the measurement of fetal interorbital distance (IOD). There was good correlation between IOD and other fetal biometric parameters. The regression equation of GA = 6.24 + 4.89 1OD was used to predict the GA.

ABSTRACT

Objective:  The objective of this study was to develop a sonographic technique for the measurement of fetal interorbital distance (IOD) for gestational age (GA) determination and to establish a normogram of IOD for the local population.

Prediction of Normal Ovulation by Sonographic Folliculometry Involving Natural Cycles among Women in Ojo, Southwest Nigeria

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.103
Pages:
134–40
Synopsis:
Accurate prediction of ovulation is important in the management of female infertility. Sonographic observation of complete disappearance of a dominant follicle and reduction in follicular size of surrogate follicles after follicular rupture appeared to be more reliable predictors of imminent ovulation than merely measuring follicular dimensions.

ABSTRACT

Background: Accurate prediction of ovulation is important in the management of female infertility.

Aim: To determine the sonographic sensitivity of reduction in follicular size and disappearance of ovarian follicle as predictors of imminent ovulation.

Sonographic Biometry of Normal Kidney Dimensions among School-age Children in Nsukka, Southeast Nigeria

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2013.010
Pages:
46–53
Synopsis:
Some kidney diseases are usually associated with changes in kidney size. Sonographic determination of pathologic changes in the size of the kidneys necessitates knowing the normal ranges of kidney lengths especially with respect to height in school-age children.

ABSTRACT

Background: Some kidney diseases are usually associated with changes in kidney size.

Objective: To determine sonographically the normal limits and percentile curves of the kidney dimensions according to age, gender and somatometric parameters among school-age children.

Observer Variability in Sonographic Measurement of Kidney Sizes among Children in Benin-City, Nigeria

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2012.262
Synopsis:
In this prospective cross-sectional study, ultrasonography was used to repeatedly measure kidney sizes by different observers in order to determine the level of inconsistency within and between replicate measurements of kidney size by a single and different observers. Replicate sonographic measurements by a single observer are more consistent, and therefore, more reliable than replicate measurements by different observers.
ABSTRACT

Aim: To assess the level of inconsistency in replicating sonographic kidney size measurements in a population of healthy Nigerian children.
