Graduation One Stop Continues

The University of the West Indies, Mona Graduation One Stop Centre remains open until November 3 between 9 am and 7 pm daily with the exception of Wednesday, November 3, when the Centre will run from 9 am to 12 noon. The Centre will allow graduands to make payment for graduation via credit and debit card, take photographs, order memorabilia items, collect gowns and join the alumni all in one stop.

World of Work Seminar Focuses on Entrepreneurship

The final seminar in the World of Work Series focuses on Entrepreneurship. The seminar will help participants to identify business opportunities and to create business plans. Dr. K’adamawe K’nife, lecturer, Department of Management Studies, UWI, Mona and Wayne Robinson, Executive Director, Quality Academy will be the presenters. The seminar is scheduled for Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 3 pm in Seminar Room (SR 10), UWI, Mona.

CARIMAC Students Partner to Promote Road Safety

The Public Relations Class of 2011 at the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) at UWI, Mona has partnered with major private and public sector organizations to promote road safety among UWI, Mona students through a campaign. The highlight of this Initiative will the staging of an expo dubbed, “Wreckage”: Driving for “U” and WI” on November 18, 2010 at 3 pm at the Students’ Union, UWI, Mona.

The Verdict Is In

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work and the National Heritage Month Committee at UWI, Mona presents the last film in its Film Series entitled, “The Verdict Is In” by Dr. Ray Hagins.  The film screening takes place on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 6 pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre (N1), UWI, Mona.

The Faculty of Humanities and Education Awards Ceremony

The Faculty of Humanities and Education, UWI, Mona hosts its annual Faculty Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 11 at 2pm at the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre, UWI, Mona. The ceremony seeks to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of students in the faculty for the 2009/10 academic year.

The university community and the public are invited.

“Women and Leadership”

The Institute for Gender and Development Studies at UWI hosts a public lecture entitled, “Women and Leadership in Ghana” on Monday, October 25, 2010 at 5 pm at the Multifunctional Room, Rex Nettleford Hall, UWI, Mona. The lecture will be delivered by Professor  Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

A Tribute to Dr. Victor Chang

The Department of Literatures in English at UWI, Mona will pay tribute to Dr. Victor Chang, for the distinguished and dedicated service as a lecturer, administrator, and academic who has served the Department and the University for thirty-two years. He will be recognized on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 6 pm at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts.

Dr. Chang has served on several committees during his tenure, and at various periods sat on high–level bodies within the University as University Council, Campus Council, Senate, Academic Board, and Finance and General Purposes Committee.

UWI, Mona Hosts Peter Tosh Symposium

The Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work at the UWI, Mona hosts a Peter Tosh Symposium in celebration of the life and legacy of Peter Tosh and as part of the national heritage celebrations staged by the Mona Campus. The Symposium is being held under the theme, The Man, The Music and The Message: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a true Musical Icon, Peter Tosh. The event takes place on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 6 pm at Undercroft, to celebrate the anniversary of Peter Tosh’s birthday.

12th Walter Rodney Lecture

“From Rodney to Ragga: From Black Power to Gold Power: Who Will Sort Out the Nation?” is the title of the 12th annual Walter Lecture. Robin ‘Bongo Jerry’ Small, pioneering poet on rhythm, photographer, editor of several cultural publications and radio show moderator will deliver the Lecture. The event takes place on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 5:30 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona.
