Overview

The award is available to Jamaican nationals at the Mona Campus who are: 

  • under 25 years of age;
  • pursuing an undergraduate degree full-time in an engineering discipline in the Faculty of Engineering.
Up to USD $10,000.00 Twenty (20) per year (including continuing awardees) Three (3) years

The following Terms & Conditions apply:

  • The recipient must continue to pursue the course of study for which the scholarship was awarded.
  • If the recipient opts to take a gap year, candidate will forego eligibility for automatic scholarship renewal as stated under ‘Criteria.’

The award will be based on: 

  • academic performance based on the results of the previous academic year University exams (GPA of at least 3.0);
  • demonstrable financial need;
  • involvement in co-curricular activities;
  • demonstrable community involvement or leadership qualities.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University and Donor Agency.

Applications will be accompanied by the following documents:

  • UWI scholarship application;
  • most recent University transcript (returning students);
  • CAPE & CSEC scores and high school transcript (new students);
  • University acceptance letter (new students);
  • one page (at least 300 words) essay on the candidate’s educational and career goals.
Advent Fellowship Scholarship agriculture, engineering, fst, Faculty of Sports, humed, law, medsci, socsci

The award is available to any student enrolled in any undergraduate programme.

Up to JMD $100,000 One (1) per annum One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • verifiable financial need;
  • involvement in co-curricular and/or community activivties and volunteerism;
  • high academic performance at the high school level or previous year's University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.00).

NB: Preference will be given to students of Advent Fellowship who apply

  1. Applicants short-listed on the basis of their performance in Advanced Level GCE/CAPE Examination or University Examination;
  2. Candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University and Donors.

Applications must be accompanied by a letter (no more than a page) justifying the need for assistance and a character reference.

AFJ AMBASSADOR GLEN A. HOLDEN BURSARY fst, humed

The award is available to Jamaican Nationals who:

    • are registered in the Faculty of Science and Technology and  Humanities and Education at the Mona Campus;
    • have satisfactorily completed Level I of the degree programme;
    • participation in co-curricular activities and demonstrated leadership qualities.

 

 

J$200,000.00 and J$200,000.00 Two (2) per annum Two (2) years and One (1) Year

The awards will be based on:

 

    • High academic achievement (at least a GPA of 3.3)
    • Verifiable financial need

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprising personnel from the U.W.I.

AFJ AMBASSADOR J. GARY COOPER BURSARY fst, humed, socsci

Available to Jamaican Nationals who are entering level II or level III in the Faculties of Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Humanities & Education (one award per Faculty).

US$1,000 Three (3) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

 

    • good academic performance;
    • verifiable financial need;
    • participation and leadership in co-curricular activities.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprising personnel from the University.

AFJ Ambassador Sue Cobb Scholarship engineering, fst, humed, law, medsci, socsci

The award is available to Jamaica Nationals or students of Jamaican parentage who are:

    • registered at the UWI and will be entering their final year of study.

 

Tuition Two (2) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

    • high academic performance in the last academic year's University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.3);
    • demonstrable leadership potential;
    • significant participation in co-curricular activities (e.g. sports, music and/or the arts).

 

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprising personnel from the University and the JFHAA Scholarship Committee

AFJ Kevin Paul Akindele Wright Memorial Bursary

The award is available to Jamaican Nationals who are: 

  • full time undergraduate students;
  • enrolled in the Engineering program at UWI Mona;
  • entering Level  (ΙΙ) of the Engineering degree programme.
$300,000.00 One (1) per annum One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • academic performance based on the results of the previous academic year University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.0);
  • verifiable financial need.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University / or the family of Kevin Wright.

Qualified candidates must submit a brief bio (1 or 2 paragraphs) describing their interests, goals and achievements.

AFJ Klotz Family Scholarship agriculture, engineering, fst, Faculty of Sports, humed, law, medsci, socsci

This award is available to:

  • Jamaican nationals;
  • incoming/first year students pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree in any Faculty of the University of West Indies, Mona.
USD$2000 each per annum Four (4) Three (3) Years

Continuation on the award each successive year will be based on the awardee maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 each academic year.

 

In addition to strong academic performance, the award will be based on:

  • verifiable financial need;
  • involvement in co-curricular/community activities, volunteerism;
  • demonstrable leadership qualities etc;

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from the Klotz family and a committee comprising personnel from the University.

The recipient of this award must be available:

  • for a photo opportunity and provide various written inputs including an academic resume and other items to support donor reporting and promotion of the award;
  • to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.
AFJ RALPH & RICKY LAUREN BURSARIES (THE) fst, humed, medsci, socsci

Available to Jamaican Nationals who are entering their final year in the Faculties of Medical Sciences, Science and Technology, Social Sciences, Humanities & Education (one award per Faculty).

J$200,000.00 Five (5) Two (2) years

The award will be based on:

 

    • good academic performance;
    • verifiable financial need;
    • participation and leadership in co-curricular activities.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprising personnel from the University.

AFJ The Mark and Kathleen Newman Scholarship

The award is available to:

  • first year students who are accepted to pursue a degree programme in the Faculty of Science and Technology (strong preference for candidate who intends to add a double major or minor in the  Humanities).
US$1500 each per annum Two (2) Three (3) Years

Continuation on the award each successive year will be based on the awardee maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 each academic year

The award will be based on: 

  • successful matriculation to the UWI and demonstration of a strong academic record 
  • demonstrable leadership qualities;
  • demonstrable financial need;
  • demonstrable involvement in co-curricular activities and community involvement.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising UWI personnel and a member of the Newman family.

AFUWI SCHOLARSHIPS fst, humed, medsci, socsci

The award is available to students registered in the Undergraduate Degree programme and:

  •  Nationals of CARICOM countries;
  • Are registered in either the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Science and Technology, Humanities & Education or the Faculty of Social Sciences.
  • Are entering Level 2 or 3 of their programme of study in the Faculties of Humanities & Education, Science and Technology, Social Sciences;or Level 4 or 5 in the case of Medical Sciences students (MBBS or DDS).
Between US$ 2,000- US$5000 To be decided by Donor One (1) year

The award will be based on: 

  • Academic performance based on results of the previous academic year University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.0);
  • Demonstrable leadership qualities;
  • Involvement in co-curricular and/or community-related activities.

Selection will be done by UWI officials in accordance with the established practice.

Applicants applying for more than one award should submit a SEPARATE application form when applying for this scholarship.
