Research Day 2011 - FSS Schedule of Activities

Come and explore the disciplines of the Social Sciences by viewing and discussing films made by, involving, or otherwise used by lecturers in their teaching.  The films that will be shown over the two-day period (January 27-28) include:

  • A Beautiful Mind - Follows the career of a brilliant mathematician and Nobel Prize in Economics winner who struggles with mental illness in the form of schizophrenia.
  • An Inconvenient Truth - Presents climate change from the perspective of form US Vice President Al Gore as he seeks to raise consciousness on the issue.
  • Life and Debt -  Looks at the economic and social situation in Jamaica, and the impact of policies promoted by the IMF and the World Bank. 
  • Microenterprise: A Path to Development - Reviews microenterprise activities in Jamaica and the role played by social networks in making small businesses successful.
  • Tourism & HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Jamaica and Bahamas - Examines issues relating to Caribbean tourism and the spread of HIV/AIDS.
