UWI Recognises Outstanding Researchers

At the Annual Research Day Awards Ceremony held January 27 in recognition of outstanding researchers, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal Professor Gordon Shirley presented awards to Faculty of Social Sciences staff members in the following categories:

 

-  Best Research Publication

-  Outstanding Researcher/Outstanding Research Activity

-  Research Project Attracting the Most Research Funds, and

-  Research Project with the Greatest Business/ Economic/ Development Impact.

 

The awards for Best Research Publication (Article) went to:

  • Clinton Hutton (2010).  Oh Rudie: Jamaican popular music and the narrative of urban badness in the making of postcolonial society, in Caribbean Quarterly 56 (4): Special issue: Pioneering Icons of Jamaica Popular Music, Part 2. 22-64.
  • David Tennant (2011). Why do people risk exposure to Ponzi schemes? Econometric evidence from Jamaica. International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money. 21. 328-346.
  • David Tennant, Claremont Kirton, and Abdullahi Abdulkadri (2011). Modelling the effects of financial sector functions on economic growth in a developing country: A cointegration and error correction approach.  The Journal of Developing Areas. 44 (2). 183-205.

 

The Outstanding Researcher award went to:

  • David Tennant:  For six (6) articles including the two list above and the following:   

          -  Factors impacting on whether and how businesses respond to early warning signs of financial and

The award for the Project Attracting the Most Research Funds was presented to:

  • The Centre for Leadership & Governance

           Project: Strengthening Governance in Jamaica

 

 

The awards for the Project with the Greatest Business/Economic/Developing Impact were presented to the following researchers from The Centre for Leadership & Governance for the project entitled: A National Strategy for Mainstreaming Youth Development in Jamaica:  An approach to Sustainable Development:
