Faculty of Social Sciences Celebrates Our Distinguished National Honours and Awards 2026 Recipients

The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) at The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Mona, proudly congratulates a distinguished group of alumni and former faculty members who have been recognized in Jamaica's 2026 National Honours and Awards. Their achievements reflect a commitment to public service, leadership, academia, diplomacy, governance, and national development, underscoring the transformative impact of a social sciences education.

Among the honourees is Mrs. Maxine Henry Wilson, who has been awarded the Order of Jamaica (OJ) in recognition of her outstanding contribution to public service and national development. Mrs. Henry Wilson, a respected educator and former government minister, has devoted decades to advancing education and public policy in Jamaica.

Also receiving national recognition is Professor Densil Williams, recipient of the Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD) and the 2026 Executive Leadership in Higher Education Presidential Award from the Not Alone Foundation. A distinguished academic and higher education leader, Professor Williams has made significant contributions to entrepreneurship, innovation, and university administration, earning admiration throughout the region for his visionary leadership.

Ambassador Alison Stone Roofe has been conferred with the Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD) for her exemplary service to Jamaica. Throughout a distinguished career in diplomacy and public administration, Ambassador Stone Roofe has represented Jamaica with distinction on the international stage while advancing national interests through strategic engagement and advocacy.

Joining the list of awardees is Mrs. Audrey Tugwell Henry, who has also been awarded the Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD). As one of Jamaica's leading financial and corporate executives, Mrs. Tugwell Henry has played a pivotal role in strengthening the country's financial sector and fostering economic growth through sound leadership and innovation.

The Faculty also celebrates Professor Evan Duggan, former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and a distinguished academic economist, who has been awarded the Order of Distinction (OD). Professor Duggan's extensive contributions to teaching, research, public policy, and university leadership have left an indelible mark on generations of students and scholars.

The recognition of these distinguished alumni and former staff members further strengthens the Faculty's legacy of producing leaders who continue to shape Jamaica and the wider Caribbean across multiple sectors. Their accomplishments stand as an inspiration to current students, faculty, and graduates, reaffirming the Faculty's commitment to developing socially conscious leaders capable of driving meaningful change.
