We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Orville Taylor, a distinguished lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, will be awarded with the Order of Distinction in the Rank of Commander (CD). This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Taylor’s public service and advocacy in Education and in Labour Relations Specialisation. 

Dr. Taylor’s journey is marked by an exceptional career dedicated to shaping national and regional policy. His expertise was honed over more than 18 years in government service, where he served as a former Senior Industrial Relations Director in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. His contributions extend far beyond local borders; he is a respected external collaborator with the International Labour Organization (ILO), where he has authored groundbreaking studies on topics like Regional Labour Standards and Flexible Working Hours, the latter being a first of its kind in the developing world. His counsel on labour matters has been sought by other Caribbean nations and even the European Union, underscoring his international standing.

In addition to his impactful public service, his career is deeply rooted in education. As a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work at the University of the West Indies, Mona, he has championed a new generation of thinkers. As a scholar of Black racial issues and labour studies, he has shared his knowledge and passion through over 60 international and local conference papers and more than 200 local keynote speeches, addresses, and seminars, cementing his role as a leading voice and tireless advocate.

This award celebrates a lifetime of dedication and a legacy of transformative work. His contributions have not only advanced his field but have also left an indelible mark on education and public service, benefiting countless individuals and communities.
