Empowering Future Entrepreneurs Through Regional Partnership

More than 160 students in the BSc in Entrepreneurship programme at the Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona will benefit from a new scholarship partnership with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), providing access to internationally recognised certification and training valued at over £80,000.

Launched in September 2026, the initiative fully funds student participation in CDB's online course, Community Engagement in the Caribbean Context, which is being integrated into two courses offered by the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM). Through the programme, students gain practical experience in community engagement strategies while earning a globally recognised CDB certificate.

According to Dr Kadamawe Knife, Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Thinking and Practice, the partnership reflects a shared commitment by UWI and CDB to empower Caribbean people through education and training.

Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr Heather Ricketts, noted that the collaboration helps bridge the gap between theory and practice, providing students with valuable real-world skills and professional credentials.

The partnership highlights how strategic regional collaborations can expand opportunities for students, strengthen community development across the Caribbean, and prepare the next generation of socially conscious entrepreneurs.
